Has Natural Hygiene theoretical development been at a virtual standstill for years? Can we add something about man's mental/emotional/spiritual health? Can we learn something from other modalities? Should we review the history of humans from the earliest beginnings to the present time? Do we want to be idealistic or realistic? Perhaps we initially should concentrate on the correct definition of Natural Hygiene - and first at a much later stage bring up most of the topics below? All inputs are welcome - just become a free member and join the email discussion group. Below is a selection of topics, but there are many more, ..... Definition? What is Natural Hygiene? Is it all about the Laws of Life, toxemia/enevation and the balance health/disease? What about the common perception that NH equals fasting and vegan diet? Should we get the basic definition of NH correct first, before discussing secondary topics? Does diet seem so important because hygienists agree on everything except diet? DISCUSSION Organic? Is organic always worth the extra cost? What if I don't have access to organic? How grow my own organic food? Is the label organic being watered out? Can we trust the testing procedures? What about non-US countries? Raw or cooked? Is all-raw always the optimal? Are there exceptions? Gradations? What about meat - how acceptable is slow-cooking, quick-searing, etc.? Food-combining or haphazard eating? Should food-combining & sequential eating always be used, or mainly when sick? Unnecessary? What different kinds of food-combining are there, and which are the best? Whole or piecemeal? What about juicing and blending? Is it a question about better absorption versus oxidation? Is juicing necessary for the very sick? Fasting? What developments have taken place in fasting? What should every faster know? When is fasting best used, and when best avoided?
Germs & viruses? What is the latest about germs, bacteria, viruses? Are they essential and beneficial in the disease process, or not? Do they change form according to environment? Are vaccinations always dangerous? Basic concepts Don't we all agree that we should eat foods of our biological adaptation? That our species thrives on certain foods, just like all other species? And that this adaptation has taken place over millions of years? Doesn't it boil down to this: "let's find out what science, e.g. archaeology, has to say about human diets from the beginning of time - and let's be willing to change our ideas if tomorrow's knowledge contradicts today's"? Or what? Veganism, fruitarianism Is today's veganism and fruitarianism still as dangerous as Dr. Cursio discovered they were pre-1950? What if I take supplements? And what kinds of supplements? Are the diets perhaps ok for a limited time, and how long is that? How realistic is it to say: because I am an animal-rights activist - I have to be a vegan? Optimal vegetarianism Should vegetarianism still be regarded as the optimal diet for humans - as Drs. Shelton and Cursio believed? Or not? What do I need to know to be an optimally healthy vegetarian? Low-carb or low-fat? What is good in low-carb or paleolithic/stone-age type diets (Atkins, Vonderplanitz, Mercola, Eades, ...)? Compared to low-fat diets? Is eating animal proteins and fats necessary and valuable for humans, or not? What can we learn from Weston-Price? Which diet & eating programs are the best? OK? Bad? What improvements could Natural Hygiene contribute, if any? What would a NH low-carb diet look like? Weightloss diets? Which approaches are good? Ok? Bad? Why is obesity so common today? What do we need to know about emotions, habits, amounts, etc. to reach optimal weight? |

Nutrition - the insulin mechanism How dangerous is body-created insulin (from eating carbohydrates)? Are raw and organic carbs ok? In what amounts? Are high-starch vegetables, grains and processed flour-products not ok?
Nutrition - saturated vs unsaturated fat Should saturated animal fats always be avoided? What about saturated vegetable fats?
Milk? Is raw (organic) dairy ever acceptable? Does it depend on your genetics? Or on how much you consume? Is raw yogurt, or butter, ok? Is goats milk better than cow's milk? Drinking water How do I choose water to drink for a fast? For daily drinking? Is distilled water preferable? What about spring-water? Water with soaked sea-weeds? Are mineral salts in water harmful, or can be valuable & absorbable? Safety issues and cover-ups Is genetically modified (GM) foods the biggest health danger we face today? Irradiation? Pasteurization? ....?
Mental, emotional, spiritual Does this picture show a useful way of looking at the body? As a physical body - interacting with our invisible mental, emotional, spiritual bodies that may consist of pure energy - all interdependent? How interdependent? --- Doesn't EFT and similar therapies heal the emotions and thereby heal the physical body? Don't we hear more and more about the emotional causes (e.g. resentment) for cancer? Doesn't spiritual healing exist - as supposedly witnessed at Lourdes. What about placebos - when your mind believes that you'll get well, and you do. Energy in the body The basis for all life is energy - life-energy, or nerve energy. The more energy - the more vitality, the more positive emotions, the faster healing. A gigantic topic. Eastern philosophies We are getting more and more familiar with chakras, energy pathways, auras - as knowledge of yoga, acupuncture, reiki, chi gong, etc. is spreading. These ancient concepts of energy in the body may very well be important for a better understanding of speedy and optimal healing. Symptom-removal only, or not? Which therapies are truly helpful? Which will lead to improved health and increased energy? Which are purely symptom-removing? Which are a mix? Examples: Is acupuncture treatment symptomatic only? What about massage, chiropractic, CranioSacral, Lymph-drainage, different energy-methods?
Do-it-yourself methods? Since Natural Hygiene promotes independence from physicians, and expects doctors to be teachers rather than treaters - are there therapies that teach interesting do-it-yourself methods? What about exercise & stretching methods and similar? Are they all equal? Medical treatment & drugs? Is medical treament always symtom-removal, or are there exceptions? What about the new breed of nutritional doctors? When are drugs ok? Never? What about traumas and accidents? Similar systems? What similarities and differences are there in instinctive/anopsology ideas, biogenic thinking and similar, compared to Hygiene? Social environment What does health have to do with family, society, social groups? Marriage, relationships, sex? How important are ceremonies and rituals, cooperative efforts, communication and language, games and entertainment?
The global environment Should INHS care about ecology? Farm animals? The small farmers? Global warming? International food supply? Survival of marine life? Forest destruction? Electric pollution? etc.... Only if it is related to health?
